Topline

The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry reduces waste, promotes accountability and helps recipients move toward greater independence through work, education and training opportunities.

This committee also delivers a modernized farm bill safety net to provide the certainty and predictability America’s farm families need to continue operating and produce and raise the affordable, safe and abundant supply of food, fuel and fiber that our nation relies upon.

Saves Taxpayer Dollars

Strengthens SNAP work requirements for able-bodied adults by increasing the age limit from 54 through 64.

  • Includes parents of children at or over the age of 10, as these adults can reasonably work, volunteer, or seek education and training while their children are at school.
  • Limits the ability of States to arbitrarily waive work requirements by restricting waivers to only areas with high unemployment.

Controls the growth of SNAP by limiting benefit growth to the rate of inflation.

  • Protects against a repeat of an overreaching Biden administration policy that dramatically increased SNAP spending beyond inflation without congressional approval.

Invests in Rural America

America’s farm families are operating under the outdated policies of the 2018 Farm Bill. Hardworking farmers and ranchers who grow our food are struggling in this economic climate as high inflation and steep input costs outpace market prices and threaten the future of multi-generational operations. Farm bankruptcies increased by 55% in 2024 compared to 2023, threatening food security.

A modernized safety net helps ensure the next generation can continue faming.

This package:

  • Modernizes the farm safety net to better protect against economic uncertainty and market volatility.
  • Enhances risk management tools for livestock, specialty crop, honeybees, and aquaculture producers.
  • Expands access to more affordable crop insurance while making it more responsive to risk.

Conservative Wins

  • Maintains benefits for those who need it the most: the elderly, disabled individuals, and children.
  • Promotes work, education, training, and volunteering among able-bodied adults.
  • Incentivizes proper management of SNAP by states to ensure responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars into the future.
  • Strengthens rural communities and delivers certainty for farmers, ranchers and producers nationwide.
  • Invests in domestic food, fuel and fiber production, thus decreasing reliance on foreign companies to feed, fuel, and clothe Americans.
