Chairman Roberts Applauds Extension on Grassland Conservation Initiative Signup

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pat Roberts, R-Kan., Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, today is pleased with the announcement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to extend the deadline for eligible producers to enroll in the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) Grassland Conservation Initiative.

“I thank the Department for recognizing the need to extend the signup deadline for the new Grassland Conservation Initiative,” said Roberts. “Some producers are impacted by the change in base acre eligibility for the Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage commodity programs. We included this new conservation initiative in the 2018 Farm Bill to address these acres, and I want to make sure that producers are aware of their eligibility and opportunities to enroll.”

Chairman Roberts questioned USDA Deputy Secretary Stephen Censky on what the Department would do to increase awareness of the program and signup timelines at the Committee’s October 17 hearing on implementation of the 2018 Farm Bill.

The 2018 Farm Bill created the CSP Grassland Conservation Initiative. The new deadline to enroll is November 8, 2019.

Producers should contact their local NRCS office and FSA office.
