Boozman Applauds Committee Passage of Legislation to Mitigate Wildfires

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Chairman John Boozman (R-AR) led committee passage of the Fix Our Forests Act, bipartisan legislation to combat catastrophic wildfires, improve forest management and safeguard communities.

“The growing threat of wildfires underscores the need for more proactive forest management policies. The Fix Our Forests Act is a critical step toward preventing catastrophic wildfires and delivering solutions that reduce their frequency and intensity. This is a commonsense way to protect lives, property and the environment. I look forward to swift passage in the Senate so we can make our forests healthier and more resilient,” Boozman said.

The Fix Our Forests Act, S. 1462, was introduced by Senators John Curtis (R-UT), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Tim Sheehy (R-MT).

The Fix Our Forests Act:

  • Simplifies and expedites proactive management of federal lands;
  • Prevents catastrophic wildfires;
  • Enhances public-private partnerships to protect communities; and
  • Reduces frivolous lawsuits

In May, the committee heard testimony from a U.S. Forest Service official about the Fix Our Forests Act. This followed a March Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry, Natural Resources, and Biotechnology hearing to review the House-passed companion legislation.

In January 2025, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Fix our Forests Act by a vote of 279-141. The legislation was introduced by House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-AR) and Congressman Scott Peters (D-CA).
