WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, released the following statement:
“Congressional Republicans have chosen to cut food assistance for millions of Americans to give tax breaks to billionaires. Instead of working with Democrats to lower costs for Americans, Congressional Republicans are doubling down on shifting costs to states that they simply cannot bear. We’ll keep fighting these proposals that raise grocery costs and take food away from millions of people, including seniors, children, and veterans,” said Ranking Member Klobuchar.
The Parliamentarian ruled that the Republican’s revised Senate Ag Committee reconciliation text complies with the Byrd Rule. This means that $41 billion in SNAP costs will be pushed onto the states, leading to budget shortfalls and food assistance cuts across the country.
Democrats were able to successfully fight back Republican efforts to push the next Farm Bill to 2031 and are ready to work on a Farm Bill that delivers for all of rural America.
