Chairwoman Stabenow Statement on Senate Confirmation of Sharon Bowen as CFTC Commissioner

Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today issued the below statement following Senate confirmation of Sharon Bowen as Commissioner for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Bowen, the first African American woman to be appointed commissioner to the CFTC, will play a critical role in helping to lead efforts to implement the reforms contained in The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.

“I’m proud that my colleagues in the Senate gave their support to confirm Sharon Bowen as commissioner for the CFTC. Ms. Bowen is an accomplished public servant who recognizes the urgency and importance of protecting the markets and ensuring they are transparent and working as intended. The Commission will benefit from Ms. Bowen’s experience and expertise, as will the farmers, ranchers and small businesses across the country who rely on the markets to hedge risk and continue growing their businesses. I also look forward to the Senate confirming the other two excellent CFTC nominees, Tim Massad and Christopher Giancarlo, without delay. Once they are confirmed, the CFTC will once again have a full complement of commissioners.”
